The supercharged version of famous 4½ litre Bentley first appeared in 1929, and only 50 were built.
Today, this original Birkin Blower Bentley can be seen in the Montagu Motor Museum, and still has a maximum speed of over 120 mph, with acceleration to match.

The actual vehicle this model was based on was the 4½ litre Bentley of which 720 were produced by Bentley Motors Limited from 1927 until 1931. Bentley had competed in various races for a number of years without success until 1927 when they developed the famous 4.5 Litre. This model ultimately went on to victory including four consecutive wins at the 24 Hours of Le Mans endurance race which forged the brand's reputation.

Matchbox produced the (Y5-2) 4½ Litre Bentley from 1962 to 1968. This model of the famous Bentley race car from the Lesney workshop was the pinnacle of model processing and ultra-fine castings. New wheels with spokes, thin light holders and other details make it one of the most perfect metal models. Bentley collectors and fans received it enthusiastically. Outrage, however, was that Lesney began producing the famous Bentley in shiny metallic, instead of the original dark green color, which was once a symbol of British racing cars.

Variations/Rarities: There were 13 variations ranging through colour changes for body, grille, radiator shell, seats and tonneau covers and various racing numbers.
The first release was in an apple-green colour but it was later changed to British Racing Green. The British Bentley Owners Club objected to the colour, the colour was stopped and the original British Racing Green was applied. The apple green was released for only a short period hence the reason these are hard to come by.
British racing green Bentley is usually found with the black '5' decals or the hard to find black '3' or red '6' decals.
The glossy apple green with a green or red tonneau is very rare.
The British racing green version also had dark red, red or green seats/tonneau but only the dark red version is hard to find.
Early versions had the radiator cast in as part of the body but this was changed to a seperately cast part. The first models with the new radiator had gaps between the rear springs and the fuel tank and giftware holes in the baseplate. This version is hard to find.

This model was also released with green or red seats as a silver or gold-plated version in the Matchbox Giftware series.
